The Institution for Gas Engineers and Managers (IGEM)’s scholarships scheme has returned for another year, continuing the effort to support future engineers on their educational journey and beyond.
As we look towards 2050 and the net zero challenge, IGEM supports a holistic approach to solving the energy trilemma that stands before us.
Every aspect of the supply chain will need to work together and the right policies must be in place for us to transition to a decarbonised UK. Equally, we are committed to making sure the future generation of engineers is fully supported to carry out the delivery of our zero carbon vision.
For this reason, IGEM has made the following scholarships and grants available to those with an interest in the energy sector who are working towards an engineering career via university study:
Prospective Undergraduate Scholarship – Worth up to £9,000 (£3,000 per year up to three years) this scholarship is open to students who currently hold a conditional or unconditional offer for an Undergraduate Engineering Council accredited course
First Year Undergraduate Scholarship – Worth up to £6,000 (£3,000 per year for up to two years), this scholarship is open to those enrolled on their first year of their Engineering Council accredited degree and making excellent progress, to the standard of 2:1 or above
Prospective Postgraduate Scholarship – Available to exceptional graduates with an accredited BEng (Hons) degree to allow them to undertake an Engineering Council accredited Masters course. Each scholarship is worth up to £6,500 for one year’s full time study (pro-rata for part time study up to two years)
Claire McHugh, IGEM’s Head of Membership Services, said: “IGEM aims to inspire innovation and personal development by recognising and rewarding your achievements wherever we can.
“With a fifth of the utilities sector’s 500,000-strong UK workforce due to retire in under a decade, IGEM is keen to do everything it can to close the skills gap and make engineering the career of choice for more young people.
“These scholarships have been made possible by the generosity of past IGEM members and are designed to support people who may become the gas engineers of the future.”
