Commonwealth Scholarships for postgraduate study

If you are looking for some funding for your postgraduate study and fancy the idea of studying abroad, the Commonwealth Scholarships could provide you with an opportunity to do just that but for free.

What are Commonwealth Scholarships?
Open to all citizens of Commonwealth countries, there are over 900 scholarships and fellowships available each year for postgraduate study and professional development.

The aim of these scholarships is to contribute to the UK’s international development aims and wider overseas interests, support excellence in UK higher education, and sustain the principles of the Commonwealth.

Candidates are selected on the basis of merit and their potential to contribute to the needs of their home countries.

Commonwealth Scholarships for UK Citizens
There are a whole range of scholarships available and what is offered depends on which Commonwealth country you come from. For UK citizens, there are scholarships to study at postgraduate level in other Commonwealth countries. These include opportunities to study at Masters, Doctorate and PhD level in the following countries.

• Papua New Guinea
• South Africa
• South Pacific
• Sri Lanka
• New Zealand
• Singapore
• India

Eligibility
The scholarships are open to citizens of any Commonwealth country but you cannot apply for one in your own country. You must hold an undergraduate degree in a relevant subject to the course you wish to study, having achieved either a first or 2:1 in your undergraduate degree.

Value
If you are successful in your application, you will be awarded:

• Full tuition fees
• Return economy airfare from your home country to the country where you will be studying
• An arrival allowance of $500US
• A monthly allowance to cover living costs, including accommodation, food and transport.
