Scholarships for refugees and asylum seekers in the UK

Scholarships for refugees and asylum seekers

Education is a privilege that we take for granted in this country, but for many people around the world they do not have the opportunities that we have.

When refugees are displaced from their homes by war or persecution, they often have to leave their homes and all their belongings behind so to start life in a new country, with nothing can be a challenge that for the majority of us, here in the UK is way beyond our life experiences.

Many universities are now recognising that to provide the opportunity to study for refugees and asylum seekers is providing an invaluable lifeline to someone who has arrived in the UK and needs to find their place in society. Through education, people can equip themselves with the skills and qualifications which will allow them to establish a career and a life here.

As an asylum seeker or refugee, you will not be eligible for Student Finance as you need to have been living in the UK for 3 years or more, but if you have been granted indefinite leave to remain, you could be eligible for one of these full fee paying scholarships, which not only pay all your tuition fees, but also provide you with living costs while you study.
These scholarships represent an amazing opportunity to get your life back on track, for people who have suffered displacement from their own country and home.

Here is a list of current UK universities currently offering scholarship opportunities for asylum seekers and refugees. Some are for offered for undergraduate studies, some for postgraduates and some for either. Visit their websites to find out more.
